A couple things

Just finished this today. I started working on it in the car on the way back from school. The doodle on the left is what I did on the drawing app on my phone, then I emailed that to myself and did the rest.

This was a practice sketch for my final project in my color theory class.

This one's not done yet and I don't know if it ever will be, which is why I'm posting it now.

A day in the life of an art major

Today has been crazy busy and crazy awesome at the exact same time. I began my work for all my art classes at 8am this morning, it is now 9pm and I just finished everything I wanted to complete for the day. Lets take a look at what went down, shall we?

8am: Graphic design for 3 hours. Here I finished working on a logo for a fictitious furniture company based on sea turtles. It's called Seat-Turtle:

11:30: Art history for an hour and a half. Today we learned about sculpture.

1pm: Get home and work on paintings for online design class until 3pm.
3pm: Figure drawing for 3 hours, where we had a live model but today we had to draw their skeleton instead of their outside form. Here's that:
6pm: Continue working on paintings/drawing for online design class.
9pm: Finished!

I'm gonna go lie down.

Sketch to Illustration

Just finished another sketch-to-photoshop paint over. I don't have the slightest clue what this guys back story is. I should probably start thinking about that when I begin my artwork so that at the end there's some sort of cohesion. But for now, it's just a huge robot checking out a tree.

Bunch of stuff!

I just finished animating the scubaman that I painted a few weeks ago. It's Just a looping animation of him bobbing up and down underwater, but if you look closely you can see some nice lighting and particle effects that I did to create some specks in the water. That video is here:

Next are a couple drawings I did this past week in our figure drawing class. We have to know human anatomy down to every little bone, so we had to draw a skeleton in one of the class periods. And the other was just a normal pose.

I needed some new shoes since I only brought one pair and some sandals up to school. And since sandals are are evil according to BYU-I, I didn't want to be wearing the same shoes everyday. I picked up some cheap canvas shoes at walmart and made these badboys based on some monster sketches I did:
And lastly a couple doodles I did the past couple of weeks:

Cinco de Mayo

This is a little mexican bird I drew yesterday. I realized it was cinco de mayo after I drew him. Also I have a life drawing class this semester and I am learning a ton about the human form which is helping me so much in drawing people. Below are our first two projects from that class.

Red

Recently I thought it would be cool to do something everyone already knows of, but in my own style. Red riding hood seemed like it would be a good fit since I love creating forests. When I start my drawings/paintings I only have a rough idea of the end product and I just fill in the gaps with what I feel looks best or fits best. Below is a collage showing the progress as I worked on it. And below that is an old drawing I did on an app on an iPhone. Hope you like it all!

I Illustrated an upcoming book cover!

So my good friend Ben Grange is writing a fantasy novel for young adults and has asked me to illustrate the cover for him. The book seems really awesome so far and I can't wait for it to get published. You can read the first four chapters right now here: The Pieces of Fownd- Hexodynamic

I used the tree sketch from my last post as a base and added texture and extra shading through photoshop. I'm pretty happy with it.

And here's a random old thing from my sketchbook.

Some trees and doodles.

Here are some random tree sketches I did, I was having a lot of fun doing the wavy designs in the bark as you can probably tell.
Just another weird tree...
And here are some birdies. For some reason I like drawing birds, I think it's just the part about designing beak shapes.
And this is a work in progress of me coloring and old sketch I did...I'm still deciding between this bright color scheme and a more muted one. We'll see if it ever gets done.

Another doodle brought to life: The Tower

I took another doodle from my sketchbook and scanned and colored it.

This is more or less what I was picturing in my head when I drew the above sketch.

And since I'm still trying to learn how to use after effects I used this as a test. I put the flowing clouds in and some birds flying around. It's pretty low resolution (making the birds tough to see) on here but you can get the gist of it.

First post: A robot of course.

So everyone keeps telling me I need to post my artwork on the internet. And since I guess facebook isn't good enough and I hate deviantArt because it's mostly just filled with anime I chose the blog route...so here's some stuff I made. Enjoy.

Here's my latest little thing. I haven't animated anything in a while so this was kinda nice to do. Made in after effects using different layers for his different segments, and the puppet tool for his arms and legs. The smoke in the background was done with particle effects. The initial drawing done by hand then in photoshop.

It began as a page cover page that I made for facebook.

And even further back it started as a doodle in church:

Cool how things progress like that, huh?
